Rosehip Mole asked
Is there any real physical evidence for Bigfoot?
7 steps, drawn by Nib. Read it here, or watch him draw it.
1the footprint
Film can be faked, but a footprint is a thing you can hold. So what physical evidence do Bigfoot hunters actually have? Footprints first, thousands of plaster casts.
2the twist
Section four of our six-part Bigfoot course. The 1958 tracks made the name famous, and in 2002 the family of Ray Wallace revealed he'd stamped them with carved wooden feet.
3skin ridges
But not every print is a prank. Dermal ridges, tiny skin lines, show up in some casts, and researchers like Jeff Meldrum argue those are too detailed to carve.
4the hair
Then hair. Samples labeled Bigfoot were collected for decades. Under a microscope, almost all turned out to be bear, deer, cow, even human fibers.
5DNA verdict
The decisive test is DNA. In 2014 geneticist Bryan Sykes tested thirty samples of supposed Bigfoot hair. Every one was a known animal, though two matched an ancient polar bear.
6the tally
So the pattern holds: every hopeful piece of evidence dissolves into a hoax or a known animal. Absence of proof is not proof of absence, but it keeps piling up.
7the keepsake
Here is the whole section on one board: a track, a hair, a strand of DNA, and every trail ends at a known animal or a prankster.
So the lab hasn't found a giant, yet believers keep searching; who is right about what counts as proof? Next up: Cryptozoology vs. scientific skepticism.
