Privacy policy

How askNib handles your information, in plain words. Last updated 7 October 2026.

Scope

This policy describes how askNib (“askNib”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses and shares information when you use asknib.com, the askNib plugin for ChatGPT, and related services (the “Services”). By using the Services you agree to this policy. Contact: hello@asknib.com.

Information we collect

  • Account information, such as your email address and the basic profile your sign-in provider (for example Google) shares with us.
  • Content you provide, such as your questions, links, documents and notes you attach, and the lessons made for you, including their text, drawings and recorded voice.
  • Usage information, such as pages and lessons viewed, actions taken, timings, how many questions you ask, and similar events.
  • Device and technical information, such as IP address, browser and device type, and cookies or similar technologies (for example the first-party visitor cookie nib_vid, kept up to a year, and sign-in session cookies).
  • Information from services you connect, such as ChatGPT, which sends us the requests you make of askNib there and an anonymous identifier for your ChatGPT account. What ChatGPT does with your conversation is covered by OpenAI's privacy policy.

How we use information

We use the information we collect to provide, operate, maintain and secure the Services; to make lessons; to personalize your experience; to understand how the Services are used and to improve and develop them and new products, including by analyzing content and using it to evaluate and improve our AI systems; to communicate with you, including about updates and offers; to enforce our terms and prevent abuse; and as required or permitted by law.

How we share information

  • Service providers that work on our behalf, such as hosting, database and storage, AI model providers that generate text, voice and images from your content, analytics, email delivery and sign-in providers.
  • Other people, according to the visibility of your lessons: a public lesson, with its question and your display name, can be shown to anyone and in search engines and other services, and a link-only lesson can be viewed by anyone who has the link.
  • Analytics and advertising partners, where we choose to use them, subject to applicable law.
  • Business transfers, such as a merger, acquisition, financing or sale of assets.
  • Legal and safety: to comply with law or legal process, or to protect the rights, property or safety of askNib, our users or others.
  • With your consent or at your direction.

We may also share aggregated or de-identified information that does not reasonably identify you.

Retention

We keep information for as long as we consider necessary for the purposes above, including to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes and enforce our agreements. You can delete lessons and your account on your account page; residual copies may persist in backups, logs, caches and third-party services for some time.

Your choices

You can download your lessons and delete them or your account on your account page, and you can control cookies through your browser. Depending on where you live, you may have rights under local law, such as to access, correct or delete personal information or to opt out of certain processing; to make a request, contact hello@asknib.com. We may need to verify your request, and we will respond as required by applicable law.

Children

The Services are not directed to children under 13, and you must be at least 13 to create an account. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, contact hello@asknib.com and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

Security and international use

We use reasonable measures to protect information, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure. Media in lessons, including private ones, may be stored at long, unguessable addresses that anyone holding the address can open. We are based in the United States, and your information may be processed in the United States and other countries.

Cookies, Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

We and our partners use cookies, local storage and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, measure use and, where we choose, for advertising. There is no common standard for responding to browser Do Not Track signals; we currently limit our visitor cookie when a browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, and we will honor opt-out signals where the law requires.

Notice to California and other U.S. state residents

In the last 12 months we collected the categories of personal information described above (identifiers, internet and usage activity, content you submit and inferences from use) from you, your devices and services you connect, for the business and commercial purposes described above, and disclosed them to the categories of recipients described above. We do not currently sell personal information for money. If we “sell” or “share” personal information as those terms are defined by applicable law, including for targeted advertising, we will provide the notices and opt-out rights the law requires. We keep each category for as long as described under Retention. Residents of certain states may have rights to know, access, correct, delete and port personal information, to opt out of sale, sharing, targeted advertising and certain profiling, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights; you may use an authorized agent. To exercise them, contact hello@asknib.com. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16.

Third parties and links

The Services may link to or work with third-party services, such as ChatGPT or Google sign-in. Their practices are governed by their own policies, and we are not responsible for them.

Users outside the United States

The Services are operated from and intended for the United States. If you use them from elsewhere, you understand that your information will be transferred to, stored and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those where you live.

Changes

We may change this policy at any time. Changes take effect when posted with an updated date. Your continued use of the Services means you accept the updated policy.
