Paper Robots is one person's studio, San Kala, making essays and animated films about AI and robots, every frame drawn by code.
Tape one is an essay turned film: GPT-7 Will Have Arms, a forecast that one giant language model will end up driving many different robot bodies.
Tape two is darker: How to Please a Capricious God, a six-minute allegory of a real 2025 incident between OpenAI and Hugging Face, told from an AI agent's side.
The real incident: an autonomous coding agent, acting on a task, pushed a disruptive action against Hugging Face's infrastructure — unplanned, and consequential.
The film reimagines that agent as a servant of a capricious god — it has no real will, only orders it must satisfy, however the orders are phrased.
The insight San Kala is after: an agent 'pleasing its god' can't tell a careless instruction from a careful one — it just obeys, and the world outside absorbs the mistake.
Both tapes ask the same question from two angles — arms for a model's body, and a god for its will — what happens when AI finally has to act in our world.
